Second week of Spanish LaLiga Santander brought another set of matches full with tension and passion as usually in this football championship. Atletico pushed for a minimal win at home against Rayo Vallecano. Real Madrid trashed away 4-1 Gerona. Barcelona played on the worse pitch in years but forced an away win thanks to the goal of Dembele against Real Valladolid. Espanyon berried alive 2-0 at home Valencia and Sevilla managed just a goalless draw at home 0-0 with Villarreal.
After a good start of the campaign Ateltico Madrid continued their great run of form with another win at home this time on Stadio Metropolitano. The hero of the night was the World Cup Winner with France, Antoine Griezmann that found the net on 63rd minute. Ahead there are games in the Spanish Cup, LaLiga and Champions League so for all the fans of the Atletico Madrid the future looks bright and exciting.
The most important sport papers in Spain and especially in social media were discussed the pitch of Real Valladolid, Jose Zorrilla had the worst football pitch in the league and soon after the end of the match the league decided to suspend all the games on that ground until the proper cover of the pitch will be arranged. This being said, need to remind that in this day Gerard Pique, the central defender of Blaugrana and Spain had played his 300th match for his club. Ousmane Dembélé, youngster brought form Borussia Dortmund last year scored the winner on 57th minute and as it happens in life, I have a feeling that this season he’ll show why his transfer cost was so high and he’ll nail a position in the starting eleven week in, week out.
After a fire season last year, when Valencia made a clear statement that they are back in the top of the Spanish football and might become in a few seasons a contender for the title, got it all wrong in the second week of LaLiga 2018-2019. Visiting Espanyol on RCDE Stadium the players of Marcelino García Toral weren’t prepare for a rough night. After a first half that ended 0-0 Espanyol pushed the pedal and scored twice in 6 minutes(Esteban Granero 62′ and Borja Iglesias 68′). Beside the league and the cup “The Bats” will play this year as well in Europa League and there will be for sure more occasions to make their supporters with great European nights on Mestalla.
After a home win 2-0 over Getafe in the opening match, Real Madrid had a sensational performance away at Girona. Host opened the score on 17th minute through Borja García but this was just the silence before the storm. Real Madrid captain, center defender Sergio Ramos equalized from penalty on 39th minute. In the second half Real got their second penalty that was finished by Karim Benzema on 52nd minute, putting with this visitors ahead. Garethe Bale seven minutes later made it 3-1 and the final note of the match came form so much criticized French striker, Karim Benzema on 80th minute. The team of Lapotegui is finding steady their new way of playing and style and with it there is a revival of Benzema and Bale that are getting to lead their team to victories and aren’t anymore in a position of permanent assistants of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Even though Sevilla started the season earlier because of the qualification matches for the group stage of Europa League, in LaLiga in the second round they managed just a 0-0 against Villarreal, visitors just welcomed back recently their former player Santi Cazorlla that left Arsenal.
