PREMIER LEAGUE 18/19 WEEK 2 HIGHLIGHT, RESULTS, COMMENTS AND LEAGUE TABLE

Premier League is back already the second weekend and the excitement didn’t dropped down, worse it just increased. Let’s Talk Football, shall we? Firstly about Everton. Everyone knows that “The Toffees” paid for Watford Brazilian striker Richarlison, around  £50million and guess what, the fella worth it so far. Theo Walcot opened the score after a quarter of hour and that same Brazilian doubled the lead on 31st minute. Southampton is not just the team that is making a fortune selling their best players to Liverpool, their new signing Dany Ings, that had a pale career for reds due multiple injuries scored the only goal for visitors on 54th minute.

Maybe you know or not but the contractors responsible to deliver new stadium for Tottenham Hotspur announced that the arena is not yet ready to held official games so Spurs played their first home game against new promoted Fulham same like previous season on Wembley. Fortunate, for sure not, Tottenham despite lack o transfers this season had kept all the important players and the quality of the squad and the team play remains on the top level, so the match was clearly dominated by hosts. Brazilian right winger Lucas Moura opened the score on 43rd minute of the match. Fulham fought hard in previous season to promote from Championship to Premier League so on 52nd minute Aleksandar Mitrović scored the equalizer. Kieran Trippier, international England right back put the hosts ahead again on 74th minute and four minutes latter the goalscorer of the World Cup in Russia 2018, Harry Kane, broke the psychological barrier of August, making the score on the screen 3-1 for Tottenham Hotspur.

One of the most spectacular game of the weekend was by far the derby of London, Chelsea against Arsenal on Stamford Bridge. Main point of this confrontation was this: both team got new coaches and due the limited time or budget there were no massive transfers of superstars to both clubs, exception maybe the departure of Tibois Curtois to Real Madrid and arrival from Athletic Bilabao of Kppa Arizzabalaga for £71.6m. Unai Emery’s Arsenal delivered an outstanding performance but this is valid for a specific part of the game. Chelsea started flying and scored a fast two goal in 20 minute, Pedro Rodriguez opened the score on 9th minute and Arlvaro Morata doubled the lead 11 minutes later. Here arrived the impact of the new Spanish coach of Arsenal and his work with the team. Gunners turned the score in just four minutes. First Henrikh Mkhitaryan reduced the handicap to 2-1 on 37th minute. Chelsea players didn’t had time to digest this received goal as  Alex Iwobi made it 2-2 on 41st minute. The massive fight was going in the middle of the park and poth sides were creating chances in the second half, though more productive have been Chelsea that push the winner through Spanish defender Marcos Alonso on 81st minute. Final score Chelsea 3-2 Arsenal, but to be honest Arsenal played a good match and slowly, slowly this team will become more stronger as the new manager is getting used with the new Championship and more quality players will join.

Manchester City had prepared a storm of goals for their supporters gathered on Etihad Stadium. Huddersfield Town survived last year in Premier League but against the current champions the players of David Wagner had a day to forget from their memory as their team capitulated on all the fronts. Sergio Kun Aguero had a perfect day at the box and scored his first hat-trick of the season(25′, 35′, 75′). Gabriel Jesus get his name on the score shit as well on 31st minute and just before the end of the first half after a set piece Huddersfield Town got their consolation goal through Jon Gorenc Stanković(43′). After the half time Citizen were upfront 3-1 and they didn’t stopped there, smelling the blood they got three more, David Silva got a beautiful goal form the free kick on 48th minute and newly entered Leroy Sané forced an own goal for Terence Kongolo with six minutes before the end of normal time. Jose Pep Guardiola’s team is on the wave and I’m curious if any of the top team can stop them except Arsenal that lost in the opening of Premier League 0-2 on Emirates.

Lots of criticism and a mostly failed American preseason campaign for Manchester United, brought a team that had serious issues about understanding each other and act like a unit. The public behavior and the criticism of manager Jose Mourinho already made the headlines in printed press as well online. After a 2-1 home win against Leicester, this week Manchester United traveled to The American Express Community Stadium to play against another “outsider” of Premier League Brighton & Hove Albion. Against all the logic the host showed more desire to win the game and dictate from the beginning a very aggressive attacking football and as a result on 25th minute Glenn Murray opened the score for Brighton, two minutes later Shane Duffy doubled the lead. Surprised and somehow demoralized Red Devils put the strengths together and reduced the handicap on 34th minute through Romelu Lukaku(2-1). Just before the end of the first half(40′) Bailey made a fault in the box and Pascal Groß finished perfectly from the penalty box putting his team ahead with two goals, 3-1. Everything left to Manchester United was another 45 minutes to equalize and force the victory. In era of Ferguson that was just the matter of time, luck and perseverance, on this day the tactics and formation of Mourinho didn’t work as it was planned to and after an intensive and tiring 45th minute in the last second of the game, Paul Pogba scored another penalty for MU, but three valuable point were gone. After the game the World Cup winner with France midfielder agreed that the team didn’t deliver their best and took the away game quite easy, thing that cost them three points. I support for a long time Liverpool but to be honest with each and everyone of you I don’t like the way the Manchester United is playing in the last two seasons the style the tactics, it’s a boring football to watch plus from the fearful club that was winning titles after titles slowly, slowly remains just memories and the sunshine after the thick layers of clouds seems to be farther then ever. I’m missing the strong and powerful Manchester United of Sir Alex Ferguson, mix of talent and experience, young and well established names, kids that marked a generation(The Class of 92).

Last major game of the weekend was Crystal Palace against Liverpool. Reds don’t have to bright memories from Selhurst Park in the recent history and their trademark flop behavior with lesser team as well is known so the match was interesting from all perspectives. I’ve watched the match from home on the couch and there were something in the game of Liverpool that was sounding the alarms. Usually Liverpool is scoring in the beginning of the matches and then loosing the tempo and mobility in the second half of the game usually are conceding  goals. After a fist half dominated by the visitors in the end of the first half after a slight touch of Crystal Palace, ex-Liverpool center back Mamadou Sakho, Egyptian winger, Mohamed Salah felt in the box and was awarded with a penalty. Already in the extra time of first half James Milener put Liverpool ahead 1-0. In the absence of Jordan Henderson the author of the goal was wearing the captain arm band. Mohamed Salah didn’t score this evening but was crucial for two more episodes during the second half. Liverpool played more for possession and the attacking intention were chosen slowly bun once they’ve run on counter attack, Egyptian arrive on one on one postilion but was touched from behind by Aaron Wan-Bissaka that got a straight a red card on 75th minute. Even playing with one more man in the last minutes of the match Crystal Palace felt the nervosity of the visitors and created few dangerous moments very close to equalize. On this occasion both the goalkeeper Allison and Virgil van Dijk proved to be the weave breaker of Crystal Palace attacking waves. In the last minute of extra time, and the referee added 4 minute, after a failed attacking action of the host, Mohamed Salah received the ball and opened greatly Sadio Mane that sealed the final score: Crystal Palace 0-2 Liverpool.
