Saturday 17th of June 2017 was opened the Confederation Cup 2017 between the host of the World Cup from next year Russia and New Zealand. It is already a tradition for the last 12 years that the future host to of the FIFA World Cup is hosting the Confederation Cup tournament as a worming up training on the top level for the future up coming event.

Russia Confederation Cup 2-17It is not so far ago when Russian National Football Team showed the most entertaining football at the Euro 2008, reaching the semifinals against Spain after trashing wonder-team of Netherlands in UEFA  Euro Championship Quarterfinals final score 3-1. There are not so many surprising news about national football team of New Zealand and tonight’s game in theory seemed to be one quite equal.

In a day that Russian supporters could train their stadium choreography, chants, expose their banners and flags, on the peach the host team started from the beginning to play an attacking, passe and fluid football managing to provoking and error from opposite side managing to grab home one goal in each time.

No doubt it is a great start for the hosts of the FIFA World Cup next year, but the real test will be the next game playing against European Champions, Portugal of Cristiano Ronaldo on 21st June.

I have always found Russia to be quite mercurial similar to Portugal in that they can show up and beat top sides and then lose the next game easily.
New Zealand were always going to struggle, same with Australia. Competing with the massive grassroots and active participants in South America and Europe sees the deck massively stacked against them.

Agree with you very much Mark, the thing is that Russia are the hosts and i will be not surprise if the referees will put a shoulder in their support. Anyhow the second leg from today and tomorrow will define for sure teams that will make it to the final.
